A Simple Portrait | Angelsea Urban Lifestyle Portrait Photographer

It’s not that complicated. It’s totally unplanned and unprepared for. The lighting isn’t ideal, the wardrobe isn’t pressed and the hair isn’t even brushed – at all.

But it’s my daughter. And she looked stunning, to me.

We were having a family “bum day”. A day where we lived “in the nothing” as Steve likes to call it. No chores, no hobbies, no agenda. Maybe some burgers on the grill. The only appointment we had was to be together and enjoy this time. Thankful to the ones who made it possible on this Memorial Day. Thankful for our freedom in this country.

But I saw her, my only daughter, in this little dress that is just as sweet as could be. And I saw this disheveled portrait that just had to be taken. Because it is authentic and perfect and captures her personality perfectly.

The carefree joy of childhood that is slowly slipping away from her. Soon she’ll be exposed to the real world and out from underneath our protection. She’ll be tested and tempted and her joy will waiver with insecurities. Her thoughts will be peppered with doubts and she will question everything. I pray that her faith filled foundation will get her through the other side in one piece. And that she turns into the amazing person that God plans for her.

But today she was just my little girl. In this little dress. Twirling and dancing and curious about the ways of the world with full abandon. The unbrushed hair and all. It was perfectly her.

As a parent I didn’t want to wait another second to take this simple portrait of her. So I broke the “bum day” rules for just a second. A minute really. Ok maybe 5. But then we went and got ice cream, so I was totally forgiven. 😉

And I’m so glad I did.

Hope you all have an amazing week!

XOXO,
Angie
